Providing End-of-Life Care: A 2-day Workshop
Dates & Times:
- March 11-12, 2010
- May 20-21, 2010
- Other 2010 dates to be announced.
Description:
Participants are introduced to multiple aspects of providing practical, emotional and spiritual support to men and women with cancer, AIDS or other terminal illnesses. Neither experience, nor employment in health care is necessary. Through reflection and the application of simple Buddhist teachings, participants learn methods on how to be present and open to what is happening in the moment. They also explore their own relationship to death and dying. We welcome participants from all disciplines, cultures and spiritual traditions who can bring curiosity to our contemplative care methods.
People from all walks of life need education about caring for one another. ZHP understands that we each have the capacity to empathetically care for another. This workshop is appropriate for everyone because death and loss infuse all of our lives in one form or another. How we care for and attend to each other is elemental for a healthy community, as well as our own well-being. This workshop provides an opportunity to learn how providing care reconnects us to our innate wisdom and compassion. Participants will leave these sessions with practical methods for integrating changes, both large and small, into their daily lives and work, as well as into the communities around them.
Zen Hospice Project is internationally recognized as having changed the way we care for the dying. To foster more transformative approaches to end-of-life care, we are happy to share our unique model through this comprehensive workshop based on core concepts from our nationally recognized volunteer program.
