Zen Hospice Project provides end-of-life care to adults who cannot remain at home through the course of their illness. Residents are referred by hospitals and health care providers, as well as friends and family members. Residents are evaluated prior to admission, and informed about the nature and goals of hospice services. The medical component of care is provided by a variety of licensed agencies in the Bay Area.

We serve dying individuals, their families and friends at three sites:

Laguna Honda Hospice

ZHP helped to create this unique program located within the institutional setting of Laguna Honda Hospital -- the largest public long-term care facility in the United States.

Zen Hospice manages the volunteer component of a 25-bed open-ward hospice unit. Laguna Honda Hospice offers cost effective and comprehensive care to an estimated 150 people annually. This site offers care to the medically underserved populations of the Bay Area.

Page Street Guest House

Opened in 1987, our 5-bed hospice residence is a beautifully restored East Lake Victorian home distinguished by hand-stenciled walls, high ceilings, fireplaces, and a patio/garden. ZHP's trained staff and volunteers provide mindful, compassionate, and comprehensive services that encourage a relatively private, comfortable, and restful environment for residents.

The Guest House provides an ideal homelike alternative to those who can no longer remain at home due to progressive illness, limited finances, or lack of adequate social support. Note: The Guest House is closed for renovations until 2009.
